Salary Negotiation
Preparing for a Compensation Conversation Without Damaging the Relationship
Compensation conversations go badly when they are improvised. Preparation converts anxiety into a straightforward professional exchange.
Benchmark first. Establish a researched range for the role, level, market and sector, and note the sources you would be comfortable referencing.
Justify with value, not need. Employers respond to the scope you will own and the results you have delivered, not to personal circumstances.
Rehearse three scenarios: the offer at range, the offer below range, and the request for your number before an offer exists. Knowing your response to each removes most of the pressure.
