Five ATS Myths That Cost Qualified Candidates Interviews

Applicant tracking systems store and organise applications. They rarely reject candidates automatically, but they do determine how your information is read, indexed and surfaced to a human reviewer.

Myth one: creative design improves your chances. In practice, tables, text boxes, columns and embedded graphics frequently parse badly, scattering your experience into the wrong fields.

Myth two: keyword stuffing works. Modern systems weight context. Repetition without evidence looks thin to the human reader who follows.

Myth three: PDFs are always safe. Most systems handle PDFs well, but a PDF exported from a design tool can be an image with no readable text at all. Always confirm your text is selectable.

Myth four: one resume fits all roles. Coverage is measured against a specific posting. Targeting is not optional if you want strong alignment.

Myth five: a high score guarantees an interview. Parsing quality gets you read accurately. Positioning is what persuades.
