Interview Preparation
A Reliable Structure for Behavioural Interview Answers
Behavioural questions test whether you can evidence a capability, not whether you can describe it. The structure you use determines how easily the interviewer can score you.
Situation and task should take twenty percent of your answer. Action should take sixty. Result should take twenty, and it should include a number wherever one exists.
Prepare eight to ten stories that cover leadership, conflict, failure, ambiguity, influence and delivery. Most questions are variations on these themes.
Rehearse aloud. The gap between knowing a story and telling it well under pressure is larger than most candidates expect.
